Arguably one of Nike's most recognizable silhouettes worldwide, the Nike Air Force 1 debuted in 1982 as a high-top basketball sneaker with Nike Air technology and a first-of-its-kind circular outsole. Despite its reputation today as one of Nike’s most iconic silhouettes, the sneaker was slated to be discontinued just two years after its original release. Three local Baltimore retailers—dubbed "The Three Amigos”—were credited with reviving the model’s popularity with an initiative called "Color of the Month Club”, a series of custom colorways of the AF1 sold and promoted organically at three local storefronts. The initiative was a massive success across the east coast and reignited the iconic design's popularity for decades to come.
