Kith Fall 2022 Mark Seliger
You’re probably familiar with the name Mark Seliger, and if not, you’re familiar with his work. Mark is one of the most renowned photographers in the world and has created some of the most iconic imagery in history. It was through his lens that I was able to see many of the artists and personalities that shaped my youth.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, Mark’s passion for photography began from a young age. He would experiment with printing and developing in a makeshift darkroom he created in his family’s bathroom. In 1984 he moved to NYC and three years later began shooting small assignments for Rolling Stone. He would go on to become Rolling Stone’s Chief Photographer in 1992, a role he held for the next decade, during which he shot over 175 covers. Since then, Mark has proceeded to shoot for Rolling Stone on occasion, as well as Vanity Fair, GQ, Italian Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and more.
His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. His photographs are part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
I connected with Mark about a year ago. His archive is unlike any I’ve ever seen. He remembers the stories behind his portraits and you can tell he truly connects with the people he captures. He recently said to me, “I go into shoots knowing that I’m going to fall in love with my subject. If I don’t, then I’m not doing my job.”
I’m proud to say that I had the pleasure of working with Mark on our upcoming Kith Fall 2022 campaign. It was truly a masterclass and watching the way he conducts a set was incredible. I’m excited to share the fruits of Mark and I’s labor in the coming days. Thank you again Mark.
