Ronnie Fieg x Asics - Legends Day
Ronnie Fieg celebrates his 10-year anniversary of working with Asics by releasing a collection of some of the rarest models to date. Entitled Legends Day, Fieg offers a 6-sneaker assortment split into two primary palettes inspired by some of his most renowned work – Salmon Toe and Militia. Each of the two themes is comprised of three silhouettes – the Made in Japan Gel-Lyte III, the Gel-Lyte III.I, and the Gel Mai. The first delivery of this collection releases on 11/22, and includes both colorways of the Gel-Lyte III.I and the Gel Mai. The Made in Japan Gel-Lyte III is scheduled to release at an undisclosed date later this year.
The Gel-Lyte III.I is Fieg's own creation, one he's been working on with Asics since 2009. This silhouette combines the classic Gel-Lyte III upper with a progressive Gel-Nimbus sole unit. The result stands as the evolution of Asics's most timeless model. The III.I is executed in premium pigskin suede and is offered in two tonal colorways – Salmon and Chocolate. Both feature asymmetrical formstripes and colored visible Gel technology on the midsole. Other details include custom-printed Ronnie Fieg insoles, Kith 5-Year logos on the heel wrap, and three additional lace options. Lastly, these will be the last two Gel-Lyte III.I's to ever release, and will proceed to go into the Asics archive.
Fieg reintroduces the Gel Mai for the first time from the archive for Legends Day. The Gel Mai was first released in the late 1990s, and was one of the first Asics not to feature their signature Tiger Stripes on the upper, instead opting to relocate them as a jeweled logo on the midsole. The Mai's one-piece bootie upper exudes technical function, and is equipped with an asymmetrical lacing system, TPU collar suspension, and floating heel counters. The Gel Mai is offered in two microperforated premium material executions – an all-white leather version with a salmon outsole, and an orange pigskin suede rendition with a speckled sand midsole and gum outsole. Both models also include custom-printed insoles and four additional lace options.
Each model arrives in exquisite custom packaging that houses the sneaker in laser-cut foam beds contained in a flap closure display box. This box houses each sneaker's additional laces, as well as an exclusive set of pins, a pair of Kith x Stance Crew Socks, and either a carabiner or a fish-shaped stress ball (depending on a specific colorway). These boxes also feature external branding that depicts the silhouette of the shoe inside, in addition to Ronnie Fieg, Asics, and Kith logos.
Finally, as an added element of surprise for customers, Kith is introducing a special golden ticket program. Enclosed in randomly assorted pairs of the Gel-Lyte III.I's and Gel Mai's are golden tickets that will guarantee the lucky recipients the opportunity to purchase the upcoming Made in Japan Gel-Lyte III Salmon Toe 2.0 or Militia. While both models will still have a limited public release, those who receive a golden ticket will be immediately instructed on how to purchase their pair ahead of time. The Salmon III.I's and Mai's will carry tickets for the Salmon Toe GL3, while the Militia III.I's and Mai's carry tickets for the Militia GL3. Physical tickets are randomly located inside the boxes of in-store pairs, while online customers will receive a randomly-generated digital ticket in their purchase confirmation email.
The first delivery of the Ronnie Fieg x Asics Legends Collection releases on Tuesday, November 22, at all Kith shops and KithNYC.com at 11AM EST. The Gel-Lyte III.I retails at $200 USD, while the Gel Mai retails at $180 USD.
