Nike Air More Uptempo Olympic Release & Event Info
Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the first time Scottie Pippen wore the Olympic-rendition of the Nike Air More Uptempo. To celebrate, Kith will release limited pairs of the Olympic Air More Uptempo with special packaging created in partnership with Nike. The first 96 customers (an ode to their 1996 debut) to purchase a pair in-store at either our Manhattan or Brooklyn locations will receive a ticket to attend our special event with Scottie Pippen on Saturday, July 23rd, at Kith Brooklyn. These first 96 customers will also receive a limited Nike Air More Uptempo cap. There will be 48 tickets in Kith Manhattan and 48 tickets in Kith Brooklyn.
During the ‘90s, Nike had three primary basketball footwear silos. The Flight line was designed for quick and agile players such as Michael Jordan, while the Force line was created for more powerful post players like Charles Barkley. The third line was the Uptempo, and it was designed for players that had skills between the Flight and Force lines, thus making it the ideal choice for the incredibly versatile Scottie Pippen. Pippen, standing at 6’8”, was faster than most guards and more powerful than most forwards, a rarity at the time. In 1996 Pippen donned the Air More Uptempo, making it the sneaker he primarily wore throughout the Chicago Bulls’ historic championship 72-10 season. He then went onto wear this same model during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, but in a very special colorway.
