New Balance continues to satisfy bibliophiles and sneaker enthusiasts alike with their literary-themed "Authors" Pack series. The latest two models to enter into this saga are the 997HL and 998HL. Each model is made in the USA, and thus is inspired by a classic novel written by an American author. The New Balance 997HL is inspired by the coming-of-age story, "Catcher in the Rye," as its makeup features very similar design cues to the cover of the famous J.D. Salinger-piece. Grey pigskin suede and mesh set the foundation for hits of red and yellow seen throughout the upper, as are black suede inserts located at the forefoot and collar. Custom-printed insoles mimic the font utilized on the text's cover as well. The New Balance 998HL features a, "Catch-22," themed execution, opting for a darker design. The majority of the upper is draped in a black suede, while small red and blue accents are reminiscent of Joseph Heller's cover. Continuing the theme, custom-printed insoles display similar font, as well as a tiny airplane graphic, symbolizing the novel's story line. Both models utilize incredibly premium materials, as well as individualistic design, making both of these trainers incredibly unique. The New Balance 997HL is available now at Kith Manhattan, the New Balance 998HL is available now at both Kith NYC locations, and both pairs are available now online at KithNYC.com.
