So Youn Lee is a visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA. Originally born and raised in South Korea, Lee moved to the United States which led her to define her new identity between two different cultures. This inspired her to create a whimsical cartoon-like world with curiosity about the psychological and spiritual aspect of life. Lee draws the genderless protagonist named ‘Mango’ in an imaginary environment as her interpretation of the human soul whom never grows old, but stays young forever.

Spectruma is a body of work inspired by how a single idea can evolve into many different thoughts and evoke many emotions. Just like a color can change into another. Until an emotion is defined by the name, there is a sense of uncertainty and slight excitement of what it might be. It doesn’t necessarily have to be positive but to have some expectation about the discovery of what. I want to paint the feeling of soothing moments by calming the hectic spark of thoughts and describe the ambiguity and tender chaos.
